I am the Kranik DIYer and this is my blog! Let me introduce you to my cannabis lifestyle world and my pursuit of all things cannabis edibles! There is so much to explore! New treats! Old favorites! And, candy! You like candy, right?
Plus, there will be some side trips to the land of topical treatments and the field of concentrates. But trust me, we’ll get right back to the food! I promise!
I live in Colorado where cannabis is and has been a hot issue for a minute! Everybody feels a certain kinda way about it. And that’s fine! But, as a former correctional social worker, I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about how cannabis is the gateway drug opponents want people to believe! Our gateway drug is sugar! Boom! I said it!
Primarily, I cook with cannabis. The extended, time release, body high is delicious!Don’t get me wrong, a nice heady, head high is awesome, too! As an experienced cannabis user, I can mix the two. And, committing a VWC, vaping while cooking, is what’s up!
My goal is to entertain and encourage you to try or continue to cook with cannabis! By utilizing the Mota Pot, an in home cannabis extractor, I’ve cut through a LOT of the annoying steps that the traditional methods making canna butter and oil present. Please check out our video at http://www.motapot.com and learn how easy and efficient your extractions can be. No straining plant matter! No eight hour cook times! Easy dosage calculations! It’s dishwasher safe! And, can be stored in the cabinet, not take up precious counter space! That’s prime real estate in my kitchen!
With the Mota Pot, you will be able to use 100% of your herb, so there is zero waste! So, after your initial extractions, place the wet plant matter in a class jar and freeze it for later. We will be using it, for sure!
All of the butters, oils, and heavy cream that I use in these recipes will be made with the Mota Pot. This way I can give you extraction rates and dosage information that is critical in making your own edibles. The Mota Pot is not suitable for making tinctures or concentrates!
Being the Kranik DIYer, I also focus on saving money on cannabis edibles! And, not all edibles are in the dispensary. A penny saved is a penny earned, right?!
I want to hear from you! Ask me questions! If I don’t know, I’ll try to find out!
This brings me to a VERY IMPORTANT aspect of cooking with cannabis. To get the most out of your herb in cooking, you must DECARBOXYLATE! Simplified, decarboxylation, removes the extra carbon atom attached to the trichomes of the raw plant. In the case of THCA, toasting your herb, gets rid of that carbon atom, converting THCA to THC, giving way to the pschoactive yum experience you’re are looking for. This is done automatically when you smoke. But, for cooking you have to take that extra step. I use the method that the inventor of the Mota Pot uses, he’s a food scientist so I trust his word. Here’s our method:
- Dry herbs completely. If you’re a home grower, this message is for you. If you purchased from a legal dispensary, it’s done for you.
- Pre-heat oven to 210°F.
- Place herb on a cookie sheet and place in the oven for 15 minutes.
- Increase oven temperature to 240F and decarboxylate for 45 minutes.
- Let herbs cool, store in an air tight container until ready to use.

Well, I’m excited and I hope you are, too! Let’s light something up!
